Dragons

Dragons on Dunya have evolved interestingly. The dragon historians around Mavi are proud to point out that dragons originally came from the sea. As far as anyone knows, they are the only creature not created by the gods. The dragons say they willed themselves into existence by swimming up from the elemental chaos at the center of the planet. However they came into existence, everyone will agree the first dragons stayed underwater and were white. Pure white dragons still swim the waters around Mavi. Once they appeared the gods took notice and started modifying them. The dragons say they made a deal with the gods to get more power but that is how the dragons all came to be different colors.

At first there was much destruction as the dragons fought. They were the prize weapons of the gods and wrought much destruction. The dragons even figured out how to infuse early humans with their presence and create dragonborn to worship them (the lizardfolk are the inbred cousins of the dragonborn).

After the gods were banished the dragons set up an uneasy peace between them all. Each color of dragon represents a family (sort of like the mafia) with an elder member that leads them all. Some of the heads of the dragon families take an active role in the peoples around them. Raksha who heads the Adamantium Dragons has helped build and defend the Dwarven/Tiefling fort of Briggs. Cervantes, the head of the Silver Dragon family has taken a special interest in the well being of the Shifters. Other dragons tend to keep to themselves or their treasures. Ramone, the leader of the Red Dragons, keeps to himself in his volcano lair and is not happy to see visitors as many charred corpses can attest. The exception to all this is Ishik who is the head of the Gold Dragon and was one of the gods banished. The Gold Dragons have a defacto leader who speaks on behalf of Ishik for the Gold Dragons.
