The Alchemists' Quest
The geology of Dunya was shaped entirely by the gods. As each element vied for power the landscapes changed rapidly from ocean to volcano to mountain to forest. Nothing was stable and so the peoples united to expel the gods.
After the expulsion of the gods, the geology settled down quite a bit. The last location of each of the gods as he or she were pushed from the world became hubs for that element. So in current Mavi, home of the water temple, a giant water spout reaches toward the sky spreading moisture and cooling the air around it. On the opposite side of the world at Kizil, home of the fire temple, a great flame pillar shoots to the sky radiating heat. The moist, cool air from Mavi is drawn towards the hot air from Kizil and they meet near Yeshil, the air temple, which causes massive storms around the area. The moist air is drawn to the north and from east to west and once it’s dry and warm from Kizil, it moves south and blows west to east. The rain and storms make the northern continent lush and green (like Ireland) while the southern continent is dryer and harsher (like the great plains). In a few places where mountains block the flow of moist air, deserts will appear.
What most people don’t realize is that the world is hollow. The core of the world is a writhing mass of elemental energy where the gods drew their power. When they were banished from the world, a barrier appeared between the land and water on the surface and the elemental chaos inside. The dwarves with their constant digging have come across this barrier but have yet to find a way to breach it. Most people speculate there’s a similar barrier in the sky that keeps the gods up in their divine realm separate from the Dunya down below.
Another curiosity of the banishment of the gods is the wobble of the planet. Before the philosopher’s stone, the planet was tilted slightly This caused the city of Yeshil’s light at the top of the world to always be blessed in daylight while Koyu’s shadow city at the bottom of the world was always shrouded in night. The force of the gods being evicted from the planet caused a wobble so that now each city only spends half the year in their preferred level of light. When this first happened it caused mass chaos in both places that neither has recovered from.
